A visit from the Governor![]() Rotary District Governor that is. Dwayne F. Hopkins, who is also the executive Director/CEO for Fisher House, was in the house of Boerne Rotary Club today. After breaking bread with us and spending some time getting to know our membership, he spoke of his Rotary moment. Usually this is a personal event which has touched their heart so closely and was because of Rotary people in their life. Dwayne had a very moving story to share.

Sisters of the Benedictine![]() Boerne Rotary Club was blessed today by a visit from Sister Bernadine from the Monastery of the Sisters of the Benedictine, right here in Boerne. We started our Friday club meeting with a wonderful prayer led by Sister Bernadine. Later on she gave us a very informative history of the local group and all of their ministries over the years. Quite impressive.

Remember Alamo College![]() Cindy Sullivan (center), from the Alamo College, came to our lunch today so our club could learn all about the new plans for a new campus just over the county line. This new campus will be much closer for Boerne students who would like to continue their education with an AA degree or to transfer to other 4 years colleges or universities.

Hill Country Mission for Health![]() Connie Padgett from the Hill Country Mission for Health was our guest speaker today. There about 8,000 lower income residence of Kendall County who do not have access to proper medical care. Mission of Health helps fill this gap. Completely funded by private donation, grants and fund raising, they are currently having a fund raising effort by selling raffle tickets and asking for volunteers.

Effects of Supply Chain Issues![]() Jack Beckwith, a certified real estate and business appraiser, discussed with our club the effects of supply chain issues with current appraisals. Changing markets are happening faster everyday. The car industry is in the middle of a very large change as they transition from gasoline to electric or other alternative fuels.

Meals in a backpack![]() Our club donates monthly to Meals in a Backpack where kids who are known to have food shortages at home are given backpacks with food for the weekend.

The Thru Project![]() Courtney Laverty,of the Thru Project opened our eyes to the reality of Foster care. Children in Forster Care are more likely to end up homeless then most any other child. The Thru project is an effort to help these people as they age out of the Foster Care program by organizing mentors and other programs the state supplies. These efforts have proven to be successful and they need more mentors.

Starfish Ministry of TExas![]() ![]() The Starfish Ministry of Texas is an amazing calling. Glynna Rester started this ministry to help an orphanage in Peru. Her stories of organizing a group of dentist to go all the way to Peru to help the kids and others in the area, are quite heartwarming.

Paul Barwick gave our club a wonderful tour of the The County Jail Museum and its history. This is a very interesting place to visit and we highly recommend taking an hour to learn about our county history. And maybe visit Jack? |

PTECH ACADEMY![]() Valerie Menchaca gave a wonderful presentation on the new BISD program called the PTECH ACADEMY. This is a very forward thinking program designed to give BISD students a head start in the future job market of cyber security. This is a new and very large job market which has the potential to reward hard working with high paying salaries. Stan Leech also gave another wonderful talk about student leadership and what to look for. |

The new and exciting Das Greenhaus Business Incubator. A place where start-up company’s can share costs in the early life of growth. A place where being around others will add energy and direction to the challenges facing new businesses. Das Greenhaus is community funded by local businesses, the city of Boerne and Kendall county.

The Doctor is in!![]() If you missed this meeting, you missed a great presentation. Dr. Ron Martinelli is a nationally renowned forensic criminologist who is the only law enforcement expert in the country who is also a Certified Medical Investigator at the physician’s level. He is also a federal and state courts qualified premises liability and security expert. He is also an author of several crime novels which are number one sellers on Amazon, soon to be movies. Not only did Ron give us a view into his work as a criminologist, he also, discussed his writing and creative process.

The Night Sky by Jack Estes![]() President Elect Jack Estes (center) gave an amazing presentation of his personal time lapse photographs of the stars in our sky using his telescope and very sophisticated software. Edwards Rogers (left) a fellow Rotarian and member of the Kendall County Friends of the Night Sky, gave Jack an award for his work. Leigh our club president also presented Jack with a book to be donated to our local library in Jacks name.

Bigtooth Maples, A love Story![]() Suzanne Young is a founding member of the Boerne Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas [NPSOT] formed in 2000. She manages their Bigtooth Maples for Boerne project, an annual free tree giveaway program that began in 2006 with the financial support of the Cibolo Preserve along with the community's help in adopting and caring for these unique native trees. The Big Tooth Maple is a beautiful native tree. Suzanne is very passionate about helping our county by teaching the community about how each of us can have one of these trees in our yard. Theodore Roosevelt, by Joe Wiegand![]() Joe Wiegand is the world's premiere Theodore Roosevelt reprisor and a fellow Rotarian. This was a truly magical meeting as Theodore Roosevelt visited our club. As the meeting started, President Roosevelt chatted with club members just as he did so many years ago as if we were in the white house or at a dinner with the president. Theodore told stories of his life and recalled important moments. Not until the very end of the meeting did Joe Wiegand step out of character and said goodbye to the audience.

Angel Flight South Central Texas![]() ![]() What is the best kept secret in Texas? Angel Flight South Central is the answer. Many thanks to Jim Daniell, who is the wing leader of Texas South Wing, for speaking at our club today. Jim informed the club of how Angel Flight gives people free flights for humanitarian needs. All of the flights are paid for and flow by the pilot members of AFSC. The majority of the flights are for cancer patients being transported for treatments. Jim is in the left photo and in the right photo is club president elect Jack Estes, Jim Daniell and Ken Stickney a past board member of Angel Flight West.

Texas Heart and Soul![]() Monty Chamberlain gave a wonderful heart warming speech today, as he describe the success of businesses hiring handicapped people in service industries. His research and personal experience found not only was this a successful program for the new employee, but the businesses were so surprised at the success, many of them hired several more people through this program.

Craig showed us how everyone can help Texas gather information about what is going on with the nature around us by using the iNaturalist app on your phone. Down load it and take pictures in your back yard or in a hike. |

Projected Growth of Boerne ISD![]() Rich Sena of Boerne ISD gave an excellent presentation of how our highly acclaimed school district is doing today and in the future. After a review of challenges COVID-19 caused major changes in 2020 our schools got back to the business of educating the students in person. In future is good planning and growth management as our community grows. The Boerne Rotary club wants to thank Mr Sena for taking the time to educate our members on the inner workings of ISD.

Gifts of Peanut Butter![]() ![]() Club executive, Andrew Voiles presents Kathy Bandujo, from Blessing in a Backpack, with additional jars of peanut butter. Our club collects jars of peanut butter every first Friday to give to Blessings in a Backpack group. They provide weekend and holiday meals and snacks for kids in BISD who are in the free and reduced meal program. Peanut butter is what they need most. |

New floating fishing pier at Joshua Springs Park by Our ClubMembers of our club assembled the new floating fishing pier that we purchased with the County at Joshua Springs Park the first weekend in May. This was the culmination of a years worth of work and cooperation with Kendall County. We wanted to provide something to the community that citizens will enjoy for years to come. Special thanks to Mike Arthur, our community Service chair, and his team for working together to provide a great experience of giving back to our community.

Kyle Kirl spoke to us about business development and contract negotioations![]() Kyle Kirl, Consultant Sales and Marketing, has over 22 years of experience with multiple consumer packaged goods businesses at ConAgra where he has held senior leadership positions in General Management and National Sales and Marketing. He has a profitable growth orientation that has translated into success throughout his career across multiple channels and customers. Mr. Kirl holds a Bachelor of Arts in PR and Business Administration from Illinois State University. Working with clients, Mr. Kirl has been instrumental in enhancing the sales and marketing strategy as well as working on business development opportunities and contract negotiations with key customers.

Breakfast with SantaWe had a great Breakfast with Santa event this year at the Kendall Elementary School. The kids were treated to breakfast, songs, face painting, cookie decorations and presents from Santa himself! We had a great time serving our community and thank everyone who made this event possible for underprivileged children in our area. |

Dillon Snell turns 90!
Dillon has been a Rotarian in our club for decades and he literally wrote the book on the foreign exchange for Rotary. We were all very excited to have him come to our club assembly where the club presented him with a check for $1,000 to the Rotary International Foundation in his honor. Dillon also brought his Daughter Ann, nephew Norman and former exchange student to our club from 1980, Marion from South Africa. |
